Our Experience with Atlantic Giant Pumpkin
If you have a large garden but you didn't plan ahead and you need something to fill it, try an Atlantic Giant Pumpkin. At they end of the summer you'll have a one monster pumpkin and one or two smaller ones. The two largest ones we have grown (without any special care) are 165lbs and 100lbs.
This winter squash plant comes in a four inch pot hardened off to outside conditions and ready to be planted into a larger pot or in the ground. If it is still early May, we recommend up-potting to a gallon container for a couple of weeks until the weather warms up.
Overview of Atlantic Giant Pumpkin from the Internet
The Atlantic Giant Pumpkin is a variety developed specifically for its immense size and is the cultivar responsible for most world-record-breaking pumpkins. These pumpkins exhibit rapid growth under optimal conditions, capable of gaining dozens of pounds per day, and can reach weights exceeding 2,000 pounds. They feature a classic pumpkin shape with light orange to yellowish-orange skin and thick, pale flesh. While edible, the flesh can be stringy and is often milder in flavor compared to smaller pie varieties. Primarily cultivated for competitive growing, fairs, and exhibitions, this variety requires ample space and a long growing season to reach its full potential.
