Our Experience with Black Cherry Tomato
We grew Black Cherry Tomato a couple of years ago and we really enjoyed it. It was one of the stronger tasting tomatoes ripening alongside of Sweet Million and Sungold. And in terms of appearance it provides for a great late summer salad when the deep brown of Black Cherry Tomato is combined with its orange and red and yellow cherry tomato cousins. Like all our tomatoes, we grow these under the open sky without any plastic overhead. We have sun all day long and provide them with plenty of water. We plant our tomatoes in mid April to early May and Black Cherry will start showing tomatoes in quantity by August.
This tomato plant comes in a four inch pot hardened off to outside conditions and ready to be planted into a larger pot or in the ground.
Overview of Black Cherry Tomato from the Internet
The Black Cherry tomato is an open-pollinated heirloom variety that produces clusters of one-inch, round fruits. These tomatoes are distinguished by their unique, deep dusky purple to rich mahogany-brown coloration with dark green shoulders. The plant is an indeterminate variety, characterized by vigorous, sprawling vines that provide a continuous and abundant harvest throughout the growing season. Renowned for its flavor, the Black Cherry offers a complex, sweet, and rich taste with smoky undertones that is distinct from traditional red cherry tomatoes. This combination of appearance and flavor makes it a popular choice for salads, snacking, and vegetable trays.
