Our Experience with Black Prince Mulberry:

Black Prince ripens a little later than our other mulberry varieties but will still begin to ripen in late June and early July. It has a large berry and is similar in flavor to Galicija. Very mild flavor but enough sweetness that you can't stop picking and eating the berries.

Our mulberry trees have survived several winters here on Lopez Island including lows in the mid teens. Cold damage is always a possibility in the winter but they will survive to fruit another day! Mulberry trees fruit early in the summer on buds established the previous winter. Their fruiting behavior is similar to Kiwis, Currants, and Grapes so be careful how you prune or you will reduce your harvest the following summer!

Our small tree collections are grown from stock on our farm. They are established during the previous year. They are about a foot or two tall. They are well rooted, established, trees that are grown over the last nine months in one gallon containers. They are ready to be potted up or planted in the ground.

Overview of Black Prince Mulberry from the Internet:

The Black Prince Mulberry is a robust and productive hybrid tree, known for its vigorous growth and early fruit-bearing capabilities, often producing within the first three years. This self-fertile variety yields an abundance of long, plump, deep purple-black berries with a rich, sweet flavor profile reminiscent of blackcurrants and raspberries. Its large, heart-shaped leaves emerge late in the spring, avoiding frost damage. The Black Prince is adaptable to a range of well-drained soils and thrives in full sun. This hardy tree is a reliable choice for gardeners seeking a consistent and flavorful mulberry harvest for fresh eating or preserves.
