Delicata winter squash is one of our favorite winter squash to eat. It ripens relatively early and is easy to handle. It produces a lot too. Depending on conditions, one plant can produce a lot of squash. We plant our Delicata squash outdoors in early to mid May in full sun but it can be planted later in May as well.
This winter squash plant comes in a four inch pot hardened off to outside conditions and ready to be planted into a larger pot or in the ground. If it is still early May, we recommend up-potting to a gallon container for a couple of weeks until the weather warms up.
