Our Experience with Red Kuri Kabocha Winter Squash:

Red Kuri Kabocha is another reliable and productive squash in our garden. Round and bright orange, they are easy to see in the pumpkin patch because they turn orange and ripen relatively quickly.

This winter squash plant comes in a four inch pot hardened off to outside conditions and ready to be planted into a larger pot or in the ground. If it is still early May, we recommend up-potting to a gallon container for a couple of weeks until the weather warms up.

An Overview of Red Kuri Kabocha Winter Squash from the Internet:

The Red Kuri is a teardrop-shaped Japanese winter squash, also known as Orange Hokkaido or Baby Red Hubbard, easily recognized by its vibrant, deep-orange skin. This kabocha-type squash features a smooth, stringless, golden-yellow flesh with a firm, dry texture. It is highly prized for its exceptional flavor profile, which is remarkably sweet and nutty, often compared to roasted chestnuts or sweet potato. The skin is edible and softens beautifully when cooked, adding to its convenience. An excellent all-purpose squash, Red Kuri is ideal for roasting, steaming, and pureeing into rich, velvety soups, bisques, and baked goods.
