Our Experience with Spaghetti Winter Squash
Our Spaghetti Squash plants produce as many, if not more, fruit than our Delicata Squash. And the Spaghetti squash are larger. They are a fun squash because the meat inside is stringy and easy to work with when preparing for the dinner table.
This winter squash plant comes in a four inch pot hardened off to outside conditions and ready to be planted into a larger pot or in the ground. If it is still early May, we recommend up-potting to a gallon container for a couple of weeks until the weather warms up.
Overview of Spaghetti Winter Squash from the Internet
Spaghetti winter squash is a distinctive heirloom variety known for its unique flesh. This medium-sized, oblong squash has a smooth, creamy yellow to golden-yellow rind. When cooked, the squash's golden flesh separates into long, thin strands that closely resemble pasta, providing a vegetable-based alternative for many dishes. It has a mild, slightly sweet, and nutty flavor with a firm, al dente texture. As a winter squash, it possesses excellent storage capabilities, allowing it to be kept for several months in a cool, dark place. Common preparation methods include baking or roasting before scraping out the noodle-like strands.
