Our Experience with Walla Walla Sweet Onions:

When we first started growing Walla Walla Sweet we discovered ho incredibly big they can get. The grocery store versions tend towards smaller onion bulbs that work well with modern agricultural machinery. A sauteed bowl of Walla Walla Sweet onions is what we think of when we look at these!

Our Alliums come in small four inch pots with 12-15 onions per container. They can be transplanted starting in mid April. When you transplant, try and protect them from birds that pluck the newly transplanted alliums looking for worms.

An Overview of Walla Walla Sweet Onion from the Internet:

The Walla Walla Sweet Onion is a celebrated heirloom variety, originating from Washington State, and is renowned for its exceptional sweetness and remarkably low pungency. This large, globe-shaped onion features a light brown, papery skin that covers crisp, juicy, white flesh. Its high water and low sulfur content contribute to an incredibly mild flavor, making it perfect for eating raw in salads, sandwiches, and salsas without an overpowering bite. When cooked, its sweetness intensifies, making it an excellent choice for caramelizing, grilling, or creating flavorful onion rings. This variety is known for its jumbo size and delicious, mild character.
